FaxChoice ("we", "us", "our") operates the website faxchoice.com. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process, for what purpose, on what legal basis, and what rights you have. It applies to the English-language site at faxchoice.com and the German-language site at faxchoice.com/de/.

2. What Data We Collect

We process the following categories of personal data:

  • Server log data (collected automatically when you access the site): IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL, access time, page requested. This data is needed for the technical delivery of the site and is deleted after 14 days.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 3.
  • Data you actively submit: when you contact us by email, the content of your message and your email address.
  • Data from third-party services: Google AdSense, Google Analytics, and similar services may collect data about your behaviour on the site — see Sections 4 and 5.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar storage technologies in three categories:

  • Strictly necessary cookies (legal basis: GDPR Art. 6(1)(f) — legitimate interest): required for the site to function, e.g. language preference and session identifiers.
  • Analytics cookies (legal basis: GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) — consent): record how visitors use the site to help us improve it. We set these only after you grant explicit consent via our cookie banner.
  • Advertising cookies (legal basis: GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) — consent): enable personalized advertising via Google AdSense and partner networks. We set these only after you grant explicit consent.

4. Google AdSense

This site uses Google AdSense, a service by Google Ireland Limited ("Google"), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, to serve advertisements. Google AdSense uses cookies and comparable web technologies (such as the DoubleClick DART cookie) to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this site or other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this and/or other sites on the Internet.

5. Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service by Google Ireland Limited, to analyse site usage and improve our content. Google Analytics sets cookies that enable analysis of how you use the site. The information generated by the cookie is generally transmitted to a Google server in the US and stored there.

We have enabled IP anonymisation. Your IP address is therefore truncated by Google within the EU or EEA before transmission. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the US and truncated there. Google uses this information to evaluate site usage, compile reports on site activity, and provide further services related to site usage and internet usage.

The legal basis is your consent under GDPR Art. 6(1)(a), which you grant via our cookie banner and may withdraw at any time. You can also prevent Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

6. International Data Transfers

Google AdSense and Google Analytics may transfer data to the United States and other third countries. Google holds certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and additionally uses Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to GDPR Art. 46(2). For transfers to countries without an adequacy decision, we will inform you of the appropriate safeguards in place.

7. Affiliate Links and Partner Programs

Some links on faxchoice.com are affiliate links. If you click such a link and enter into a contract with the linked provider, we may receive a commission. Technical information (such as the referrer URL) may be transmitted to the partner so they can attribute your transaction. This relationship does not influence our editorial assessment.

8. Legal Bases for Processing

We process personal data only on the following legal bases under GDPR Art. 6:

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): for analytics and advertising cookies, withdrawable at any time.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): for strictly necessary cookies, server logs, and responding to inquiries.
  • Contract performance or pre-contractual measures (Art. 6(1)(b)): where necessary to respond to a specific request.

9. Retention Period

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the stated purpose:

  • Server log data: 14 days, then automatically deleted.
  • Cookies: retention varies by category; see cookie settings.
  • Google Analytics: standard retention 14 months.
  • Email correspondence: until the matter is closed, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

10. Your Rights Under GDPR

You have the following rights at any time:

  • Access (Art. 15) to the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification (Art. 16) of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure (Art. 17) of your data, unless a statutory retention obligation applies.
  • Restriction (Art. 18) of processing.
  • Data portability (Art. 20): you may obtain your data in a structured, commonly-used format.
  • Objection (Art. 21) to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdrawal of consent (Art. 7(3)) with effect for the future.
  • Complaint to a supervisory authority (Art. 77) — for EU residents, your national or regional data-protection authority.

11. Rights for California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know which categories of personal information have been collected, the right to delete personal information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information ("Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information"), the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights, and the right to correct inaccurate personal information. We do not sell personal information in the narrow sense; the "sharing" for advertising cookies can be disabled at any time via our cookie banner. Requests to privacy@faxchoice.com.

12. Data Security

We use TLS encryption for transmission of your data and take technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or manipulation.

13. Children's Privacy

Our service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected such data without verifiable parental consent, we will delete it without delay.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in law or in our service or data processing. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest update.
