01 · Overview
Overview
Documo, the company formerly using the mFax product brand, positions itself as HIPAA-compliant cloud fax with AI-powered document automation built for healthcare workflows. The platform consolidates secure fax, electronic signatures, intelligent document processing and EHR integrations under a single product surface — a deliberate move from the earlier mFax-as-a-product-brand to Documo-as-a-platform.
The Solo, Professional, Business and Enterprise tiers are all self-serve. Each is sized around user count, included pages and fax numbers. Per-page overage drops as plans scale up — from $0.15 on Solo down to $0.07 on Enterprise.
A Custom tier unlocks the intelligent document processing layer. That layer classifies inbound faxes by document type, extracts structured fields like patient name and date of birth, and routes the resulting data into systems like PointClickCare, ModMed and NextGen. For inbound-heavy healthcare workflows, that replaces a separate intake-automation vendor.

07 · Who it suits
Best for
Healthcare practices and clinics that fax PHI, billing and revenue-cycle teams handling inbound document volume, mental health providers, and any organisation whose procurement specifically asks for HITRUST.
The included BAA and HITRUST envelope remove a slow back-and-forth that other vendors leave to the buyer. For hospital and health-system procurement teams, that materially shortens the security-questionnaire cycle.
Not ideal for
Solo professionals sending only a handful of faxes a month. The $25 Solo plan is sized for active practices, not light personal use.
The intelligent document processing that justifies the price sits behind the Custom tier. Small teams that mainly want a cheap HIPAA-compliant fax should look at iFax Plus at $24.99 or SRFax Health Lite at $12.60 instead.
08 · The verdict
Verdict
Documo belongs on the shortlist for clinics that want compliance built in, not bolted on. HITRUST is the real differentiator. Few competitors hold the cert. For hospital procurement teams it answers questions others duck. The Solo plan at $25 a month is above budget services. But the BAA is free. There are no setup fees. The 300-page allowance fits a small clinic. Larger teams should look at Custom. The AI document processing replaces a separate intake-automation vendor.
09 · Frequently asked
Frequently asked questions
01 Was Documo previously called mFax?
Yes. mFax was the original product name and is now retired. The company and the product both operate under the single Documo brand today, with the cloud fax service marketed as 'Documo Cloud Fax' rather than as a separate mFax product.
02 Is the Documo BAA included or extra?
Included by default on every paid plan starting at the $25/month Solo tier. Documo's security page states the BAA ships with the service rather than as an upgrade, which is unusual in the category.
03 What does HITRUST certification mean for healthcare buyers?
HITRUST consolidates HIPAA, NIST, and other healthcare frameworks into a single audited certification. For hospitals and health-system procurement teams, a HITRUST-certified vendor materially shortens security-questionnaire cycles. Very few cloud fax services hold the certification, which is one of Documo's clearer differentiators.
04 Does Documo include AI document processing on every plan?
No. Intelligent Document Processing — classification, OCR, patient-field extraction, EHR routing — is reserved for the Custom tier. Self-serve plans cover secure send and receive, electronic signatures (Professional+), and API access (Business+) but not the IDP layer.
